BEMS retrofit upgrade for OpSec Security
Concord recently completed a BEMS retrofit upgrade for OpSec Security, replacing key control and interface components to improve system reliability and future performance.
The project focused on modernising the existing control infrastructure while minimising disruption to site operations. To support this, all works were carefully planned and completed over a weekend period.
The Challenge
The existing system was based around a Trend IQ3xcite controller, legacy IO modules, HMI interface and relay configuration. As with many ageing systems, this presented limitations in terms of reliability, maintainability and long-term support.
In addition, older relay configurations and hardware components can become more prone to failure over time, increasing the risk of downtime and reactive maintenance.
OpSec required a solution that would upgrade the system to current standards while maintaining continuity of operation and avoiding disruption to critical operations.
The Solution
Concord delivered a targeted retrofit upgrade, replacing critical components of the system with modern equivalents while retaining the overall infrastructure.
The works included:
- Replacement of the IQ3xcite controller with a Trend IQ5 controller
- Installation of new IO modules to support improved system performance
- Upgrade of the HMI interface to provide clearer system visibility
- Replacement of all relays with new 2 pole and 4 pole relays to improve reliability and switching performance
All works were completed over a planned weekend shutdown, ensuring minimal impact on the client’s operations and allowing the system to be safely upgraded and recommissioned.
The Outcome
The upgraded system provides improved reliability, enhanced control capability and better long-term support. The new IQ5 controller offers increased performance and flexibility, while the updated HMI and relay configuration support more stable day-to-day operation.
By carrying out a retrofit rather than a full replacement, Concord delivered a practical and efficient solution aligned with the client’s requirements, with minimal disruption to site activities.
Conclusion
This project demonstrates the value of targeted BEMS upgrades in extending system lifespan and improving performance. By focusing on critical components and delivering the works within a weekend, Concord was able to provide a modern, reliable solution while maintaining continuity for the client.
